Jindřich Janíček studied animation in Zlín and later, illustration in Juraj Horváth’s studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design (UMPRUM) in Prague. He decided to pursue illustration professionally, and in 2023, he won the Illustrator of the Year award for the second time in the Czech Grand Design poll. Together with Nikola Janíčková, he owns the publishing house Take Take Take. Towards the end of 2022, his illustrated travelogue, Na západ severozápadní linkou (On the Northwest Line) was published by Paseka, chronicling his journey to northwestern USA and British Columbia. A year earlier, he also published a “comic documentary” titled B jako Běžec (B for Runner) about running races in the United States, also through Paseka. He has expressed his desire to illustrate a book–he often talks about it, but he has not yet started working on it–about the history of utopian religious communities in 19th-century North America.
