Lena Winkel is an illustrator and comic artist based in Hamburg. She studied illustration at HAW Hamburg and ENSAD in Paris, and has released numerous picture books while collaborating with leading German publishers. She specializes in creating books for children but also enjoys making zines. Her master’s thesis, a theoretical comic titled “Tiere richtig zeichnen” (“Drawing Animals Correctly”), won the Berthold Leibinger Award in 2023. She regularly participates in comic readings and conducts workshops, such as at the Museum Für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg, and has curated several exhibitions for the Comic Festival Hamburg. She explores the portrayal of animals in comics and picture books and has delivered several lectures on this topic, including at the Comic Salon Erlangen.
